Safety Precautions
Never weld on the shell or legs of BIG N ® pressure vessels.
Do not use copper, brass, zinc or galvanised fittings on BIG N equipment.
Do not repair injection tubes by brazing or silver soldering. The only suitable method for carrying out repairs is by electric, mig or oxyacetylene welding using mild steel rods.
Before attempting to clean or check the strainer on the intake of the metermatic, turn the liquid withdrawal off, turn the metermatic on and leave it on. When all the ammonia has drained from the supply hose, loosen the large hex nut on front of the metermatic and remove the strainer. Clean it and replace.
Gloves and a respirator should be used when clearing blocked injection tubes. The metermatic should be closed off and all BIG N allowed to blow down before attempting to clear blocked tubes.
Ensure all pressure has dissipated before attempting to remove any valve fittings or acme screwed fittings. Only hand tighten all acme fittings.
When not using the applicator for an extended period, injection tubes should be blocked off to stop mud-building wasps getting in.
Keep some pressure in the tank to stop the build up of rust.
Carry out all transfer operations in the open air at least 60 metres from houses, buildings or unprotected personnel.
Never carry or hold a hose by the end valve handwheel. The valve may accidentally turn on when a kinked hose is straightened.
Do not adjust or tamper with the safety relief valve.
Never fill applicator tanks over 85%. The percentage volume gauge measures the liquid level in the tank.
Should you have any doubt about the safe handling of BIG N, do not improvise. Contact your local supply depot for help.
Qualified personnel should carry out any repairs or maintenance to fittings. Contact your local BIG N Business Partner for advice.
